The position is located in the Circuits and Systems (CAS) research unit, see http://www.oulu.fi/infotech/annual_report/2015/cas, Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (ITEE, see http://www.oulu.fi/itee). The unit’s current field of research is the design of electronic and optoelectronic circuits and systems, the main topics being time-to-digital converters and timing circuits, radio telecommunications electronics, semiconductor devices and driver electronics for high-speed electrical optical transmitters, electronics for laser ranging and optical spectroscopy. The CAS research unit is affiliated to the Centre of Excellence in Laser Scanning Research (funded by the Academy of Finland, 2014-2019, see http://www.fgi.fi/coelasr/). The unit currently consists of 2 professors (Juha Kostamovaara, Timo Rahkonen) and ~20 staff members.
The tenure-track position in microelectronics circuit design is directed towards analogue and mixed-signal circuit design in modern CMOS microelectronic technologies.
The tenure track position will start 1.8.2018, or later by mutual agreement with the successful applicant. Researchers appointed to tenure track positions may advance their career through the tenure track process and be appointed to a permanent position as a full professor or distinguished professor.
The tenure track position is open to highly talented individuals who hold a doctor’s degree and have excellent potential for a successful scientific career. The successful applicant will be placed at the appropriate professor level in the four-level tenure track system (http://www.oulu.fi/university/node/38379).
Responsibilities and Required Qualifications: A person at any level in the academic tenure track system is expected to conduct world-class scientific research, to be competitive in attracting external funding, to publish in leading journals and conference reports, to supervise CAS’s doctoral students, to be an active member of the international scientific community and to create and teach related BSc and MSc courses.
Required qualifications and career advancement at each tenure track level: Career advancement in the tenure track system is based on assessments of the candidate’s performance and merits.
The position of associate or full professor is initially a fixed term of five years, but a continuation period may be granted, or else the position may be made permanent. Continuation in the position requires meeting the criteria listed below in addition to successful research work, as indicated in the University of Oulu Tenure Track guidelines: http://www.oulu.fi/university/node/38379.
Applicants for an associate or full professorship are evaluated on the following criteria:
The position of a Full Professor requires a doctoral degree, high-level scientific competence, experience in leading scientific research, ability to provide high-level research-based teaching and to supervise final theses, and merit in international co-operation projects in his/her field of expertise. The position of a Full professor also requires the ability to act as an academic leader.
Salary: The salary of the appointee will be based on the demand level chart for teaching and research staff in Finnish Universities. In addition to the basic salary for the appropriate tenure track level, a supplementary salary will be paid for personal achievement and performance, rising to a maximum of 46.3% of the basic salary level for the post. The salary will thus be roughly 4,100 - 5,400 €/month for an associate professor and 5600–8300€/month for a full professor. The appointed Full professor will also be supported by the creation of a 4-year doctoral student position funded by the Faculty of ITEE.
Other benefits: Finland is one of the most dynamic countries, with a high quality of life, high safety standards, an excellent education system, and a competitive economy.
