Group Leader in Metabolic Programming

Over the last 5 years, the 600-staff NRC has published around 1000 scientific publications in peer review journals and files about 80 patents every year. The NRC also has around 100 research collaborations with universities or research institutes around the world.

The NRC is organized with three large research institutes for Nutritional Science, Materials Science and Food Safety & Analytical Science. These major Institutes are complemented by Research Units focusing on Clinical Development, PetCare. The NRC plays an important role in providing the science behind healthier products, and how food impacts on the host (learn more about the NRC at www.research.nestle.com).

Lausanne is home to the 2 strongholds of Nestlé’s fundamental research: the Nestlé Research Center (NRC) and the Nestlé Institute of Health Sciences (NIHS) that investigate the complex interactions between nutrition, health and wellness.

We are currently looking for a Group Leader to head the Metabolic Programming group within the Metabolic Health Department, which is a part of the Institute of Nutritional Science at the NRC.

As the Group Leader of Metabolic Programming group, your key responsibilities will be to lead a team of scientists and technicians studying the early life nutrition and its impact on cardiometabolic health later in life. Demonstrating strong scientific insight and leadership skills, you will have the responsibility to drive impactful research in developing nutritional concepts for Maternal & Infant nutrition in line with the overall strategy of the Nutritional Sience Institute.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and drive research in the field of Metabolic Programming aligned with the Institute and Department strategy and business needs, especially our infant nutrition business. Ensure coordination among Nestlé Research units in this domain. Establish key external alliances and translate science into business innovation by participating in transversal business strategy and R&D teams
  • Ensure adequate resource (including budget) and competence allocation to key research projects.
  • Translate novel insights in the area of metabolic programming and early life nutrition into research and business opportunities. Communicate and convince business stakeholders to endorse and act upon them.
  • Drive the communication and publication strategy of the Group for high scientific impact and sound product support.
  • Promote transversal collaborations within the Department and the Institute.
  • Benefit from external network to propose new collaborations supporting key projects.
  • Lead, coach and develop people in the group to ensure impact of the scientific expertise on projects and business support as well as mentoring and developing the people on Nestlé Leadership skills.

Education and experience

  • PhD in nutritional physiology and/or metabolism with strong expertise in early life, infant or children nutrition
  • 5-10 years post-doctoral experience in research related to early life nutrition
  • Knowledge/experience in metabolic programming, nutritional metabolism and developmental biology related to the topic of research
  • Established network in the area of early life and infant nutrition and experience in clinical trials
  • Solid publication record
  • At least 3-4 years experience in leading and developing people
  • Ability to understand and integrate non-scientific considerations (regulatory, product & commercial factors) within applied science
  • Previous experience with research in industrial environment is considered a strong advantage
  • Fluency in English
