Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) is a research organisation working to promote bioeconomy and sustainable use of natural resources. We provide solutions and services based on best available scientific knowledge to our customers. Our research results and services generate added value and sustainability as well as scientific evidence to support decision making. We carry out research on forestry, agriculture, food, game, and fisheries. We also perform statutory services. Natural Resources Institute Finland is one of the four Statistical Authorities in Finland.
The postdoctoral researcher will focus on wood formation processes and genetics of chemical and physical characteristics of wood. She/he is expected to analyse existing data (quantitative genetics of wood characteristics and wood formation processes), and take part in ongoing genetic studies on wood formation and biosynthesis of value added biochemical compounds.
Applicants should possess a PhD or equivalent degree in a suitable field (forest science/ biology/statistics). Areas of particular interest include, but are not limited to, tree physiology, molecular and quantitative genetics and statistics. Candidates should have demonstrable knowledge of experimental design and of physical, chemical and morphological wood properties and their analysis methods.
We expect the candidate to be highly committed to science and capable of conducting independent research in the appropriate field of the position. The candidate should also be skilled in writing scientific publications and communicating the research results. In addition, the successful candidate should have good spoken and written skills in English. We appreciate a demonstrated ability to solve problems in planning and executing research in controlled greenhouse and field environments, experience in building grant-funded research projects, as well as the ability to work independently, as a multidisciplinary team member and in active collaborative networking.
The person to be appointed to the postdoctoral researcher position should have completed his/her doctoral degree within the past four years (excluding maternity leaves, parental leaves, or military service). A doctoral degree must be completed at the time of accepting the position. The vacancy is initially for 2 years with a possibility of 1 year continuation (2+1).
