Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) is a research organisation working to promote bioeconomy and sustainable use of natural resources. Our research results and services generate added value and sustainability as well as scientific evidence to support decision making. We carry out research on forestry, agriculture, food, game, and fisheries. We also perform statutory services. Natural Resources Institute Finland is one of the four Statistical Authorities in Finland.
The postdoctoral researcher will study the current and future societal challenges of commercial fisheries in Finland. There are three intertwined focus areas in the work: (i) institutional analysis of current fisheries policies, (ii) assessment of the economic and social consequences of environmental and fisheries policies on fishing as a livelihood, and (iii) proposal for the development of institutional arrangements and consequent policies.
We expect a PhD degree in a relevant field (e.g. policy sciences, social sciences, administrative sciences, law) and preferably experience in applied research on natural resource use, fisheries and rural livelihoods. The postdoctoral researcher is expected to apply the appropriate quantitative and/or qualitative research methods to study commercial fisheries in Finland. We expect the candidate to be highly committed to science and capable of conducting independent research in the appropriate field of the position. She/he should have fluent written and oral communication skills in English and good collaboration skills for working in a (multidisciplinary) team. The candidate should also be skilled in writing scientific publications and communicating the research results.
The person to be appointed to the postdoctoral researcher position should have completed his/her doctoral degree within the past four years (excluding maternity leaves, parental leaves, or military service). A doctoral degree must be completed at the time of accepting the position. The vacancy is initially for 2 years with a possibility of 1 year continuation (2+1).
