Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) is a research organisation working to promote bioeconomy and sustainable use of natural resources. The postdoctoral researcher will analyse the structure and dynamics of tree canopies, canopy responses to varied management regimes and changes in environmental conditions. Tasks include processing of the point cloud data obtained by TLS and direct tree measurements for the development of volume, stem curve and biomass models.
We are seeking a highly motivated researcher with a recent PhD degree and background in ecology, ecophysiology, mathematics, computing sciences, forestry, or other relevant field of research. The researcher will need excellent programming skills (e.g., Python, FORTRAN, C, Matlab), the capacity to apply statistical methods and to address varying computational problems and experience in processing point cloud data. Experience in scientific publishing and excellent skills in scientific writing and communicating in English are required. Collaboration with stakeholders and international networks of scientists are appreciated. The ability to work independently as part of a multidisciplinary research group is essential.
The person to be appointed to the postdoctoral researcher position should have completed his/her doctoral degree within the past four years (excluding maternity leaves, parental leaves, or military service). A doctoral degree must be completed at the time of accepting the position. The vacancy is initially for 2 years with a possibility of 1 year continuation (2+1).
