About the workplace

Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) is a research organisation working to promote bioeconomy and sustainable use of natural resources. We provide solutions and services based on best available scientific knowledge to our customers. Our research results and services generate added value and sustainability as well as scientific evidence to support decision making. We carry out research on forestry, agriculture, food, game, and fisheries. We also perform statutory services. Natural Resources Institute Finland is one of the four Statistical Authorities in Finland.

Work tasks

The postdoctoral researcher will focus on the evaluation of the effects of different embryo production systems on subsequent in vitro embryo viability and quality. The tasks include comparison of the outcome of different in vitro embryo production protocols in terms of quantity and quality of the produced embryos. The quality of the produced embryos is evaluated using different staining techniques, molecular genomics and metabolomics tools as well as sensitivity to cryopreservation.

Qualifications

The candidate is expected to have a PhD degree in a relevant scientific discipline and comprehensive background knowledge and practical skills in embryology and embryo production in the laboratory. Experience with ruminant models is preferred. Solid experience in embryo micromanipulation techniques and related molecular genomics tools (e.g. CRISPR-Cas) are also crucial. The candidate should be capable of conducting independent research in the appropriate field of the position and be highly committed to science. She/he should have fluent written and oral communication skills in English and skills in scientific reporting. Good collaboration skills for working in a team are also required. The successful performance of the position requires the ability to travel as a visiting scientist.

The person to be appointed to the postdoctoral researcher position should have completed his/her doctoral degree within the past four years (excluding maternity leaves, parental leaves, or military service).
