The Faculty of Science Leiden and Leiden Institute of Chemistry are looking for a

postdoctoral researcher in Supramolecular Chemistry

Work and profile
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the group of Dr. Sander J. Wezenberg at the Leiden Institute of Chemistry of the Faculty of Science. The candidate will develop and/or study stimuli-responsive synthetic molecular systems able to capture, release, and directionally transport ions. The project covers a variety of approaches ranging from organic synthesis to liposomal transport assays.

Applicants should have a PhD in Chemistry or a related field (or have submitted their thesis before the start date). Experience with stimuli-responsive materials, macrocyclic hosts and/or mechanically interlocked compounds would be advantageous but is not required. Effective communication skills to supervise and train junior researchers in the laboratory is a must. The candidate is encouraged to apply for independent fellowships that will support their future career development.

The position is available immediately; The candidate should start before August 2024.

Description of organisation and terms of employment

The position starts by August 2024 at the latest. We offer a position for twelve (12) months and upon satisfactory performance to be extended for one more year. You will be appointed in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. The salary ranges from € 3.226,- to € 5.090,- gross per month, depending on experience (pay scale 10).

The Leiden Institute of Chemistry (LIC) is organized around two major research areas: ‘Chemical Biology’ and ‘Energy & Sustainability’. The institute’s research themes illustrate the central position of chemistry between biology, medicine and physics. The various research topics carried out within these themes are ideal for executing interdisciplinary research.
