The Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy and Energy System Technology IWES Northwest covers applied research and development for the complete wind-power value chain. Its particular strength lies in the combination of a worldwide unique test infrastructure with extensive expertise in reliability and validation. With more than 250 employees and students at its headquarters in Bremerhaven as well as at its branches in Hanover, Bremen and Oldenburg, IWES Northwest serves national and international clients. We are currently looking for a candidate to fill the above vacancy at our headquarters in Bremerhaven, Germany, at the next available opportunity.

What we expect from you
For this interesting and varied position, we expect a successfully completed degree in engineering. You should also have experience in the use of FEM, preferably with ANSYS. In addition, you also boast a high degree of readiness, the ability to grasp tasks quickly in highly technical situations, and excellent com­muni­cation skills, plus you enjoy working as part of a team. Since IWES works variously at an international level, we require a good command of English.

What you can expect from us
The group »Full Scale Blade Testing« focuses on the performance of tests on the large components and rotor blades of wind turbines. For the optimization and further development of this test procedure you will develop simulation models and methods for the performance of static and dynamic calculations with FEM and create substitute models independently. Your other duties will include model validation on the basis of test results and thus close collaboration with the Testing department. You will also cooperate closely with other research institutes and industry players in the scope of national and international research projects.

The group »Site Assessment« focuses on the use of LiDAR technology in the wind energy sector, and in particular on offshore applications. The team’s aim is to develop methods and instruments which will be used in the wind measurement industry in the future and generate an added value for industry and society alike. The team’s main activity at present is the Fraunhofer IWES LiDAR buoy, which is employed both on behalf of wind farm developers to determine the wind potential and in research projects for offshore wind measurements.

Appointment, remuneration and social security benefits based on the public-sector collective wage agreement (TVöD). Additionally Fraunhofer may grant performance-based variable remuneration components.
The position is initially limited to 3 years. 
The working time consists of 39 hours per week.
