The mission of the Berlin Institute of Health at Charité (BIH) is medical translation: transferring biomedical research findings into novel approaches to personalized prediction, prevention, diagnostics and therapies and, conversely, using clinical observations to develop new research ideas. The aim is to deliver relevant medical benefits to patients and the population at large. Since 2021 the BIH has been integrated into Charité as its so‑called third pillar.

Research Assistant: Usable Privacy (f/m/d) 

in full-time or part-time (min. 30,00 h/week)

The working group of Health Data Privacy at the Berlin Institute of Health is looking for an excellent Research Assistant, with the expected start date as soon as possible. We are a new and enthusiastic group looking for people willing to contribute to our exciting research. The group aims at understanding patients’ views on privacy and strengthening trust through innovative privacy-enhancing solutions in order to support the patients’ willingness to share data for medical research, and to enhance adoption of digital health solutions. The work takes the form of patient-centric design of privacy-enhancing technologies, and incorporates various methods of user research.

What you can expect:

  • Investigating the stakeholders' requirements with respect to privacy and data protection in the framework of a joint research project that aims at providing an anonymous telemedicine consultation tool for highly sensitive data.
  • Creating a concept for transparent and understandable anonymisation.
  • Close collaboration and exchange with internal and external partners from scientific community and hospital environment.
  • Publication of manuscripts as first author, and presentation of research results at scientific conferences.
  • Supervision of Bachelor and Master’s level students.

What you bring along:

  • Completed scientific university degree (Master, Diploma or comparable) in Computer Science, Medical Informatics, or related subject.
  • Experience in user-centred research methods.
  • Knowledge in at least one of the following areas: privacy, data protection, usable privacy, or usable security.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are a must and skills in German are an advantage.
  • The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and will have strong analytical skills.
