Background - Experience

You have a Ph.D. in Coastal engineering, Coastal geology, Oceanography, or in a related area (ocean physics, Geomorphology or other relevant Earth Sciences) from an accredited institution, with field experience in coastal environments (onshore and offshore).

Context and contribution

The main mission of the BRGM Occitanie is to support decentralized state services and communities in the area of Earth Sciences. With particular regard to coastal activities, the regional division is involved in setting up coastal dynamics observation networks, in coastal risk assessment and the impact of climate change, and in understanding and modeling hydro- and morpho-dynamics (estuaries, lagoons, coastline).

Required skills and experience

  • Good knowledge of Matlab, Python and/or Fortran tools (programming and analysis).
  • Strong background (both coursework and professional or research experience) in hydrodynamics/morphodynamics.
  • Interest or relevant experience in Video monitoring or image processing.
  • Holding a boat license would be a plus.
  • Good writing skills and ability to adapt communication to different audiences;
  • Ability to be a team player and sense of relationship.
  • Autonomy and sense of initiative;
  • Knowledge of French language would be a plus.

Particularities

This full-time position involves frequent travels in France and occasionaly abroad. The remuneration is fixed at 32 000 €/year and is paid over 13 months.
