A postdoctoral researcher position is open in the thematic research program “Three Dimensional Computational Methods in Electromechanics” at Aalto University. The research program is hosted jointly by the Department of Electrical Engineering and Automation and the Department of Mathematics and Systems Analysis. The goal of the program is to initiate research in three-dimensional computational electromechanics with special emphasis on simulation of electrical machines, model order reduction techniques, and homogenization methods.
Both departments involved in the program are high-quality research units that stand out among departments across the world in their ability to attract external funding and to engage students in concrete, applied projects originating from the needs of non-academic partners. The Department of Mathematics and Systems Analysis conducts strong research and teaching in stochastics, mathematical analysis, numerical analysis, discrete mathematics, as well as systems and operations research. The Department of Electrical Engineering and Automation conducts high quality research in modeling and simulation of electrical machines, material characterization and modelling, and model order reduction. The thematic research program provides an interesting multi-disciplinary working environment by bringing together experts in numerical analysis and electromechanics.
The postdoctoral researcher is expected to conduct independent research and participate in joint projects between the two departments. A successful candidate should have a PhD in mathematics, numerical analysis, electrical engineering or a related area and a strong background in scientific computing, finite element simulation and electromechanics. Eligible candidates are required to hold a PhD degree before the start of the contract. The position is open for one year, starting during 2017, with an extension option for a second year.
