About the employer

We provide excellent training in infection biology and immunology since 2005!

Since 2005, the ZIBI Graduate School Berlin has provided an umbrella structure for graduate training programs with a focus on research in infection and immunity. The unique assemblage of research groups that focus on infection biology and immunology has made Berlin an ideal location for our ZIBI GS. The school reflects a strong and actively cooperating community. From its inception, the ZIBI GS was designed to bridge the traditional divide between individual disciplines, such as virology, bacteriology, parasitology and immunology, and provide a truly interdisciplinary framework for the doctoral researchers.

Our young researchers capitalize on being exposed to a wide variety of research cultures that include university institutes, government agencies (e.g., the Robert Koch Institute) and basic science institutions (e.g., the Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology). We are particularly proud that the exchange between doctoral researchers among themselves and with PIs of the ZIBI GS has significantly strengthened the collaborative links between groups and increased the quality of research.

The IMPRS-IDI was founded in 2006 as a joint initiative of the Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HU).

Our graduate program is part of a wider network of graduate schools in the areas of infectious diseases, (chronic) inflammation und immunity that collaborate under the umbrella “ZIBI Graduate School Berlin”. This strong and actively cooperating community provides a truly interdisciplinary framework for the doctoral students. To foster scientific exchange and to expose the students to a wide variety of research fields, we organize joint events – including a monthly “Students´ Day” or the annual ZIBI retreat. On top of this, the doctoral students form a great community from which exciting ideas and activities emerge. A highlight is the yearly Science-Ethics-Politics-Day, a symposium on the interfaces of science and society, organized by students for students.
