Addressing tomorrow’s challenges through cutting-edge fundamental research

The French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) is dedicated to connecting the worlds of research and industry. It is one of the most prominent players in research and innovation in France and throughout the world.

Through fundamental research in physics and chemistry, the Physical Sciences Division (DSM) strongly contributes to all of CEA research programs in many fields of expertise, from renewable and nuclear energy, to health, lasers, micro and nanotechnology. The research carried out at the DSM will continue to be at the core of the solutions to move past the major challenges of the 21st century.

DSM research teams explore the frontiers of research in physics and chemistry, encompassing four realms of scientific inquiry : the fundamental laws of the Universe, fusion energy, nanoscience and climate science.

They contribute to the development of very large research infrastructures, high performance computing, and also take part in theoretical physics investigation at the highest level internationally.

Through its research activities, the DSM provides a new perspective on topics at the crossroads of science and society.

What will be the climate of the future?

How should nanoscience be used?

How can we optimize the use of energy?
