University of Turku is extending its research to materials and mechanical engineering, and from the beginning of 2021, a Faculty of Technology was created and within it the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering.

We are currently looking for

1-3 postdoctoral researchers/doctoral researchers or project researchers in the field of soft matter modelling to join the group of Computational Materials Engineering lead by Ass. Prof. Alberto Scacchi. The positions are fixed-term and the starting time for this position would be as soon as possible after the 1st of June 2024 according to mutual agreement, and the contract duration will be for 2 years for postdoctoral researchers and 3 years for PhD candidatesThe length of the contract for a project researcher is until the candidate is expected to have the doctoral study rights.

If you have an interest in using theory and computer simulations to address contemporary challenges in the realm of soft (bio)materials, you are a perfect fit for our team. These positions offer you a unique opportunity to apply state-of-the-art modelling methods for better understand phase separation phenomena in the context of biological systems, such as liquid-liquid phase separation of proteins, as well as in technologies aimed at facilitating the green transition, including the development of bio-based materials and water purification systems. Your work will be carried out in collaboration with cutting-edge experimental research. We are looking for passionate, dynamic and curious candidates, able to work both individually and in an interdisciplinary team.

Who we are looking for

Requirements

The candidate should have a background in physics, biophysics, computational chemistry, material science, or comparable fields, and have previous experience in computer simulations or soft matter theory. Basic knowledge of statistical mechanics is preferred. Postdoctoral researchers are required to have a doctoral degree in a related field (e.g. Material Science, Chemistry, Physics, Biotechnology) before the end of the application period. A person selected for the post of doctoral researcher/project researcher is required to have a higher university degree. In addition, when acquiring their degree or otherwise, doctoral researchers are required to have demonstrated the ability and motivation to undertake postgraduate studies and the capacity to complete a doctoral degree in accordance with the research plan.
