PhD position in Physics

The Centre for Cosmology, Particle Physics and Phenomenology (CP3) at “Université catholique de Louvain” (Belgium) invites applications for two PhD (Early Stage Researcher) opening in Accurate QCD predictions for BSM phenomenology at the LHC

The positions are funded by MCnetITN3 (http://www.montecarlonet.org/), the third edition of European Union funded Marie Curie Research Training Network dedicated to developing the next generation of Monte Carlo event generators.

Research activity in the Centre is equally strong on the theoretical as well as on the experimental and instrumental fronts. The theory group includes five faculty members, several post-doctoral fellows and Ph.D. students and has strong collaborations with the local CMS group and experiment at CERN and the Planck mission.
The appointments are for three years and can start at the earliest on the 1st of April 2017.

The applicants are expected to hold a Master degree giving access to a PhD since no more than 4 years. They also need to be in mobility (must not have lived or carried out their main activity in Belgium for more than 12 of the 36 months prior to starting). The PhD includes the opportunity for secondments to both the network's non-academic partners (IBA and B12 in Belgium, d-fine and blue yonder in Germany) and its academic members (Manchester, Durham, Glasgow, Gottingen, Karlsruhe, Lund, University College London, CERN, SLAC, Heidelberg and Monash). A background and interest in high-energy and particle physics phenomenology are required.

Letters of application (including a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, a brief statement of research interests) and at least two recommendation letters from senior scientists through the online system on the CP3 Jobs and at the MCnet web sites .

Review of the applications will start on the 7th of January 2017 and the positions will remain open until filled.
