The Medical Faculty of the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg, Germany, invites applications for the position of a
W3-Professorship in Thoracic Surgery
in the Department of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (Director: Prof. Dr. med. Ingo Kutschka).
As Professor in Thoracic Surgery, the person appointed will represent the medical field of Thoracic Surgery in research, teaching and patient care. The appointed person’s profile should include executive and personnel management skills, pronounced interest in interdisciplinary research and clinical work, excellent organizational skills as well as a good economic understanding. Support and proactive contribution to the faculty’s and university’s research clusters (immunology and inflammation, neuro sciences) are expected, as well as active participation in building up the Comprehensive Cancer Center. Furthermore, the existing research profile of the Department of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery in the field of tissue engineering is expected to be strengthened.
The appointee must be a board certified or board eligible thoracic or cardio-thoracic surgeon. The candidate should be a surgical expert in all aspects of thoracic surgery and be experienced in minimal-invasive, including video-assisted techniques. The Medical Faculty seeks to appoint an outstanding personality to further develop translational research through clinically relevant projects and active involvement in existing local and national structures within the field of medical research. Prerequisites are qualifications as a university lecturer (habilitation, or similar scientific achievements) as well as medical specialist in the field of thoracic surgery, pedagogic aptitude and willingness to contribute to further development of medical studies. The appointed person should have acquired an excellent reputation based on previous publications and experience in acquisition of third-party funding.
All terms including responsibilities as Director of the Department for Thoracic Surgery and liquidation will be stipulated in a written agreement. The agreement will specify the tasks associated with the clinic’s management and private patients’ care. A bonus-based remuneration will replace (or: take presence over) the former liquidation allowance. This condition may be waived if the appointee already holds the right for liquidation of honoraria obtained in private patient care.
