Lecturer (Fine Arts - Contextual Studies)

LASALLE College of the Arts is at the leading edge of contemporary arts education in Asia and works in close partnership with GOLDSMITHS, University of London, which validates its degree programmes and collaborates on teaching exchanges and research initiatives. It has set an agenda for excellence to bring the College to the forefront of international arts pedagogy, practice and research.

LECTURER (FINE ARTS - CONTEXTUAL STUDIES)

The McNally School of Fine Arts offers contemporary practice and research-based programmes at the Diploma, BA(Hons) and MA levels. It is now seeking to appoint a Lecturer with a strong research and practice in the fields of Fine Arts to teach and coordinate contextual studies modules across all levels of the Diploma and BA(Hons) in Fine Arts programmes. In addition, you will play a key role in strengthening contextual studies for the Diploma in Fine Arts programme thereby contributing to the programme’s strength in creating innovative artworks.

The Diploma in Fine Arts programme emphasises on the development of students’ creative processes and discoveries that are honed by community engagement projects and a strong understanding in Art History and ideas. It offers very distinct specialisms in these disciplines: Painting, Printmaking, Sculpture, Drawing, Art Photography and Graphic Novel. The programme also emphasises an interdisciplinary approach to learning, which allows students to discover and establish cross-discipline methodologies in the development of their works.

Contextual Studies modules encourage students to explore the broader contexts of art, media and design. The module further develops the ability to think and express, and articulate topics in various contexts through engagement in more in-depth discussion, research, presentation and reflection, within an expanded range of issues.

Reporting to the Head of School and Programme Leader, you are also required as assigned to take on an institutional role to facilitate scholarly research, interdisciplinary projects, and cross-disciplinary learning and teaching.

As Lecturer, your key responsibilities include academic preparation, teaching and delivery of specialised knowledge/skills and cognitive based contents to ensure students’ learning objectives are met. You will report to the Programme Leader and work collaboratively with teams within/across programmes and Faculty in enhancing the strategic and organisational plans and ensuring that the programme achieves its strategic ambitions and objectives.

Other responsibilities include coordination of academic learning activities, academic administration and organisation, feedback on assignments, conducting assessments and marking, student mentoring and recruitment. You will also contribute to the academic development of the programme and work as a team and be involved in specific programme activities/projects/exhibitions and other cross faculty initiatives.
