International PhD Programme in Microbiology - open call for 2017

The International Max Planck Research School for Environmental, Cellular, and Molecular Microbiology (IMPRS-Mic) in Marburg is the graduate school for Microbiology of the Max Planck Society, offering a fully-funded three-year PhD programme. The IMPRS-Mic is a joint initiative of the Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology and the Philipps-Universität Marburg. More than 25 internationally renowned group leaders are participating in the PhD programme and offer PhD projects in the following research areas:

Molecular & Cellular Microbiology
Microbial Metabolism
Microbial Diversity & Evolution
Microbial Biogeochemistry
Microbial Ecology
Microbial Genomics
Microbial Symbiosis
Modelling of Microbial Systems
Plant-Microbe Interactions
Structural Biology
Synthetic Microbiology
Systems Microbiology

The graduate school provides interdisciplinary training in a vibrant, international scientific community and access to state-of-the-art research facilities equipping our students with expertise and opportunities to embark on their own scientific journey. A cutting-edge PhD project is complemented by seminars and lectures, scientific and soft skill workshops, as well as international conferences and retreats. The official language of the school is English.

We invite highly qualified and motivated students with a strong interest in microbiology, holding a Master’s Degree or equivalent in Natural or Life Sciences
to apply.

The closing date for the application is January 31, 2017. Accepted candidates may start their PhD projects already in the summer of 2017, but no later than
October 2017.
