Introduction

INL is seeking an experienced staff researcher to develop and participate in collaborative projects in the area of integrated systems for cancer diagnostics and treatment follow up, whose main responsibility would be to use existing technologies and develop novel platforms in straight collaboration with pre-clinical partners leading to the validation of the diagnostic platforms vs established procedures.

INL is presently participating in projects for development and validation of integrated platforms for cancer diagnostic and treatment follow-up, for example targeting CTCs and other biomarkers (exosomes, microvesicles) as cancer biomarkers in blood, and CTCs in urine. Present technologies involve CTC isolation and detection in lab on chip platforms. Integrated microfluidic sensing devices are being designed and fabricated, comprising different modules for sample handling, labelling (if needed) and sensing.

Job Requirements and Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate is expected to lead ongoing programmes at INL in the diagnostics area, increasing the portfolio of existing solutions. The selected applicant will work in a cross-functional team, meaning that high adaptability to a multidisciplinary environment is needed.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • PhD in Bioengineering, Physics, Biomedical Engineering or related technical fields;
  • Over 10 years of active research after PhD in integrated diagnostic tools and their utilization in pre-clinical environments. Candidates with an exceptional CV but shorter research careers will also be considered;
  • The candidate is expected to participate and have experience in strategic decisions, production of technical and scientific documentation and planning of projects;
  • Applicants are also expected to have high quality publications in international journals and to be competitive in obtaining external research funding;
  • Applicants with international mobility experience will be highly evaluated;
  • Outstanding international exposure that warrants a solid international network for collaboration in competitive European funding;
  • Proven experience in technology transfer, innovation driven, to sustain a close collaboration with industry.

Personal Skills

Creative thinking, interested in applied science, willing to work in a team, communication, organizational and reporting skills.

Languages

English is the working language of INL. Therefore, excellent communication skills in English are required.
