YOUR TASKS

  • Conduct research on the interaction of mycotoxins and the gut epithelium towards colorectal cancer risk using mouse and patient-derived gut organoids, in vitro cell assays, conditional mouse model of colorectal cancer and patient-derived organoid-based xenograft models
  • Elucidate the molecular mechanism using RNAseq and pathway analysis followed by validation using standard molecular techniques (qPCR, ELISA, bead-based multiplex immunoassays, immunostainings, …)
  • Supervision and guidance of master students (Biomedical Sciences or related) and PhD students

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • You hold a thesis-based doctorate in Health Sciences.
  • You have profound knowledge of gut homeostasis and pathology, including inflammation and cancer development.
  • You have strong expertise in mouse models for intestinal inflammation, colorectal cancer and colitis-associated cancer, including endoscopic monitoring of tumor growth
  • You have practical experience with standard molecular techniques
  • You have experience in in vitro cell culture of gut-derived primary cells and organoids
  • You have experience in biobanking patient-derived biological materials
  • You have experience in supervision of master thesis students and guidance of PhD students
  • Experience in writing grant proposals and obtaining funding
  • FELASA C or other to act as experiment leader in mice experiments
  • First author and co-authorships on several scientific publications
  • You possess excellent written and spoken knowledge of Dutch and English

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • We offer you a contract of definite duration for the period from 2 years.
  • Your contract will start on 1/10/2024 at the earliest.
  • Your remuneration will be determined by salary scale PD1 to PD4 (if you hold a doctorate).  Click here for more information about our salary scales.
