Job description

Toyota and other Eastern countries owe their success mainly on their approach which is often coined “Lean”. Western countries, on the contrary, often fail to achieve the envisioned effects of Lean, witnessing that the initial enthusiasm is rapidly replaced by backsliding and loss of momentum. In order to support Lean projects and make them sustainable, the department of Industrial Systems Engineering and Product Design has developed a concept for a LEan MAnagement System (LEMAS). In this project, financed by Vlaio and Flanders Make, you will test a proof of concept of LEMAS in three companies that have recently initiated a Lean journey and wish to use a management system to support them. More specifically, you will improve LEMAS incorporating the feedback of the companies and you will examine the impact of using LEMAS on the companies’ performance. The project will start in February 2017, spans three years and will be supervised by prof. Dieter Claeys and prof. Hendrik Van Landeghem.
