Junior Research Scientist - Precision feeding and feed efficiency

INRA (National Institute for Agricultural Research - France) carries out mission-oriented research for high-quality and healthy foods, competitive and sustainable agriculture and a preserved and valorised environment. INRA is recruiting Research Scientists (PhD or equivalent) through open competitions and offering permanent positions.

Key activities and required skills

The successfull candidate will be required to update livestock feeding practices, taking into account individual variation of the animal's responses to feed intake. The objective of precision feeding has been made possible by the increasing availability of high throughput phenotyping techniques that allow repeated measurements for individual animals.

Strong skills in animal nutrition and in animal husbandry are required, as well as good notions of mathematics and statistics. These skills will be used for the development of biological models for the control of feeding practices. The scientific environment  will allow the combinination of studies on livestock farming, animal feeding, growth, lactation, behavior and modeling. The research project will be developed in collaboration with colleagues working on pig and dairy cattle nutrition and husbandry and on modeling at levels ranging from the animal to livestock systems.

Training required

PhD or equivalent. Skills in nutrition and animal husbandry are required. Experience in modelling will be helpful. Candidates should have a good command of English, and long-term international experience would also be desirable. Successful candidates who have not yet acquired postdoctoral training will be required to do so, preferably abroad, after their probationary period (1st year) and before being eligible for promotion to an Experienced Research Scientist position (CR1).
