Postdoc position in experiment-guided computational neuroscience

The Laboratory of Biosensors and Bioelectronics (LBB) is looking for a postdoc who would lead our computational efforts towards understanding fundamental neuroscience concepts.

Project background

Creating realistic computational models of biological neural networks is among the most difficult challenges of neuroscience. However, such models could be extremely useful both in uderstanding how the brain processes and stores information, and also for reducing the vast parameter space of experimental efforts.

At LBB, we have the technology to build well-defined, in vitro networks of living neurons, and interact with them using microelectrode arrays. This provides us with a large amount of highly reproducible data that can be used to validate computational models.

Job description

Your task at LBB will be

  • to build realistic in silico models that faithfully represent in vitro networks of biological neurons
  • to validate these networks using microelectrode array data
  • to use the optimized models for suggesting new experiments
  • to identify digital biomarkers that can be used to classify disease models

Your profile

  • You are a team-player
  • You have a bachelor in physics, mathematics, engineering, or computer science
  • You have a PhD in computational neuroscience, physics, data science, or mathematics
  • You have the required social and leadership competencies that allow you to  prosper at ETH Zurich

We offer

LBB is an interdisciplinary and international team that offers:

  • A challenging research project at the forefront of a new discipline that is bottom-up neuroscience
  • Healthy work-life balance
  • A social work atmosphere where life-long friendships are formed
  • Personalized coaching towards an academic career
  • Possibility of supervising student projects
  • Participation at many scientific conferences
  • State-of-the-art experimental and computational infrastructure
