ABSTRACT

Concentrated solar energy is currently dedicated to thermal applications or electrical production. Nevertheless, it can be particularly suitable to carry out endothermic reactions. The present subject aims at investigating and understanding the behavior of a solar reactor for biomass gasification developed during a previous PhD work. In that goal, it proposes to simulate in detail the impact of the operating parameters on the hydrodynamic, temperature distribution and kinetics of the reactor. The objective is to optimize operating parameters and to scale up the technology. The work will be both theoretical in order to simulate the reactor and experimental (optimization and test of the reactor under solar concentrated irradiation).The work will take place at CEA-INES (high temperature solar thermal laboratory in Le Bourget du Lac) under the responsibility of Sylvain RODAT. Competences from the biomass thermoconversion laboratory (CEA-LTCB) will also be involved. The work will be guided by Stéphane ABANADES from CNRS-PROMES where experimental campaigns will be planned.
