ABSTRACT

Non destructive testing (NDT) is an industrial field requiring the use of sophisticated simulation tools, in order to take into account, among other aspects, complex geometries of flaws and inspected pieces. In the particular case of electromagnetic NDT methods, the boundary element method (BEM) has many advantages, since it allows an accurate modeling of geometries of interest and limits the discrete problem to the surface of objects. In addition, domain decomposition strategies are easily introduced with this method, thanks to explicit derivation of scattering operators. In this PhD, the defect contribution to the NDT signal will be handled as a perturbation of the flaw-free piece one. This perturbation will be confined to a special domain surrounding the defect. The contribution will consist to analyze and set-up the domain decomposition strategy and then implement it within the BEM code developed in the laboratory. Candidates are expected to be skilled in numerical analysis and scientific programming. A previous knowledge of boundary elements and Electromagnetism will be appreciated.
